THE SPOT FUN GARDEN GREENHOUSE!

Build The Nursery has FINALLY LAUNCHED!
THE SPOT, an innovative after-school program with a highly motivated staff, headed up by a great board and Director Matt Evans, has agreed to let B.T.N. help their at-risk youth build B.T.N.'s very first school garden. This is EXCITING NEWS!
Why, may you ask, is this such a big ta-doo? Because school gardening simply oozes with The Spot's PBL (Project Based Learning) style of teaching: the two fit together like hand-in-glove. Because at-risk youth (really, all kids) reap immense benefits from working in the garden...
Most importantly, young bodies and minds need to be fed good food that's organically grown, non-GMO, and gluten free, to get their growing bodies and mental gears in motion. It makes them learn better because they WANT to learn, as their curiosity is sparked by what's going on with all the living things that they have chosen to play with and study in THEIR GARDEN.
Numerous studies have shown a marked difference in attitude, aptitude, and retention shown by students who garden. When kids get to taste the fruits of their labor, or give them to someone less fortunate, their pride, work ethic, and patience pay off by strengthening character, by reinforcing what they've learned, and usually, in surprising the heck out of their taste buds with, "Hey! Fruits and veggies are really yummy, if you grow them right!"
These kids, like most in the school systems, are eating highly-processed food, with almost no nutritional value whatsoever. Coupled with sugar, caffeine, extra starch, and GMO produce sprayed with toxic poisons, it is no wonder that we now have
THE FIRST GENERATION IN THE
HISTORY OF THE WORLD
THAT IS GOING TO DIE
YOUNGER THAN THEIR PARENTS!
Record levels of obesity, starvation, diabetes II, ADHD, autism, depression, and suicide are climbing. Even worse: the "food" our kids get at school, nasty as it is, may be the only food some kids get until the next day when they come back to school.
Our Wilson kids are the future! They deserve to eat! They deserve to eat healthy!! They deserve to be able to meet the challenges ahead of them in life with a brain and body that have been nourished, are healthy, and work properly!
Certainly, too much tv, video games, texting, and internet (when used strictly for entertainment) are causing a DISCONNECT DISORDER in our kids. More coming on that in the Blogs.
Besides all this, when it comes down to it, kids just love to play outside IN DIRT! This is a NATURAL INSTINCT, which most of us over 30 or so, remember well. They're naturally curious about the nature that surrounds them: bugs, birds, flowers, dirt, animals, trees, creeks, oceans, snow, clouds, wind, stars - all of it is NEW to them: well, new compared to an adult's viewpoint.
IT IS ALSO A SCIENTIFIC FACT THAT IT IS
ACTUALLY HEALTHY FOR OUR KIDS TO BE
OUTSIDE AND GET DIRTY!!!!!!!
IT HELPS TO BUILD THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEMS!!
(This explains why little children want to eat dirt...)
We must let them explore, to re-connect with their earth and food source: and especially, we must let them 'play'... for TRUE, IMAGINATIVE 'play' is the stuff that ignites grey matter and fuels 'thinking outside the box'; therefore, it is the stuff that creates genius, discovery, and innovation.

Build The Nursery is planning to launch as a non-profit by the first of 2016, to put organic gardens and hydroponic greenhouses, with alternative energy, in all the elementary schools, charter schools, private schools, day-cares, and after-school programs in Wilson, Wayne, and Nash Counties, NC.
How, you may ask, do we plan to do this???
Currently, the US Govt., through the USDA, has many plans for training our veterans in agriculture, organics, and alternative energy. Working with our hands, and in nature, helps us vets with our PTSD and other problems associated with our prior service.
Many of us are homeless and clueless as to what we should do next with our lives. This is not where our veterans, our heroes, our protectors, need to be.
Besides this, we often feel the same "disconnect disorder" that our children are experiencing. Many of us feel disconnected from society when we return from our service: many of us feel guilt and horror because of the things we have seen and done, even though we had to do these things to protect our country.
It is in our nature to volunteer, to help, to build, to protect: this is why farming, gardening, and helping our kids and our country, come naturally to us.
We at Build The Nursery feel that it is just as important to get our vets re-connected with society as it is to get our children re-connected. Having our vets teach organic gardening to children; and connecting with parents, teachers, volunteers, donors, and everyone it takes to put the garden together, should accomplish this goal. Healing our veterans and our children, at the same time, is truly the answer to many of our country's problems and is
our mission,
sent to us,
straight from God himself.
{1/5/15 We worked on the garden design for the pilot project
and chose the name, therefore, the garden and website have been born!
